Ingredients
1 cup mashed ripe bananas
1/3 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup water
Instructions
1. In a small bowl, mash the bananas thoroughly until no chunks remain.
2. In a saucepan, combine mashed bananas, brown sugar, butter, cinnamon, salt, and water.
3. Heat over medium, stirring often, until mixture begins to simmer.
4. Let it simmer for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring regularly, until it thickens slightly.
5. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
6. For a smoother syrup, use a blender or strain through a fine sieve.
7. Allow syrup to cool before storing in a jar.
8. Refrigerate and reheat before serving.
Notes
Use overripe bananas for the best flavor and natural sweetness.
If too thick after chilling, warm gently with a splash of water.
Perfect as a topping or mixed into oats, yogurt, or desserts.
