Description

A spooky twist on comfort food, Spooky Ghost Shepherd’s Pie layers savory ground beef and veggies under ghost-shaped mashed potatoes. Perfect for Halloween, this festive shepherd’s pie recipe is fun, hearty, and family-friendly. Great for Halloween dinner ideas, ghost mashed potatoes, or creepy comfort food.

Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1 medium onion, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

2 medium carrots, peeled and diced

1/2 cup peas

2 tablespoons tomato paste

1/2 cup beef broth

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

4 large Russet potatoes, peeled and chopped

4 tablespoons butter

1/2 cup milk

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

12 whole black peppercorns (optional, for eyes)

Instructions

1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and brown the ground beef. Drain any excess fat.

2. Add diced onion, garlic, and carrots to the skillet. Cook until the vegetables are soft.

3. Stir in tomato paste, then add beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer until thickened.

4. Stir in peas and season with salt and pepper. Remove from heat.

5. Boil the Russet potatoes until fork-tender. Drain and mash with butter, milk, salt, and pepper until smooth.

6. Let mashed potatoes cool slightly, then transfer to a piping bag fitted with a large round tip.

7. Spread the beef filling evenly in a baking dish. Pipe ghost-shaped mounds of mashed potato on top.

8. Press two peppercorns into each ghost to make eyes.

9. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes, until ghosts are lightly golden.

10. Serve warm and enjoy the spooky charm.

Notes

Make sure the mashed potatoes are smooth and slightly cooled before piping.

Use a sturdy piping bag or a freezer zip-top bag with a corner cut off.

Customize the filling with mushrooms or lentils for a vegetarian option.
