Description

Ingredients

6 medium potatoes

2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

4 tablespoons butter

4 tablespoons all-purpose flour

2 cups milk

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper


Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.

2. Wash, peel, and slice potatoes into thin rounds.

3. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and whisk for 1–2 minutes.

4. Slowly pour in milk, whisking constantly until thickened.

5. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth. Add salt and pepper.

6. Layer half the potatoes in a greased baking dish, pour half the cheese sauce over them.

7. Repeat with the remaining potatoes and sauce.

8. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.

9. Remove foil and bake for 15–20 minutes more until the top is golden and bubbly.

10. Let rest for 5–10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Use sharp cheddar for a stronger flavor or mild if you prefer a gentler taste.

Thin potato slices help them cook evenly and absorb sauce.

You can add cooked bacon or sautéed onions for extra flavor.
