Description
This quick homemade teriyaki sauce is a flavorful and easy recipe made with soy sauce, honey, brown sugar, garlic, and ginger. Perfect for marinades, stir-fries, grilled chicken, or rice bowls. Ready in under 10 minutes and better than store-bought!
Ingredients
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons honey
2 teaspoons freshly minced garlic
1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
1 tablespoon cornstarch
2 tablespoons cold water
1/4 cup water
Instructions
1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, rice vinegar, garlic, and ginger. Whisk until the sugar dissolves and the mixture begins to steam.
2. In a separate bowl, mix cornstarch and cold water into a smooth slurry.
3. Slowly whisk the slurry into the saucepan while stirring constantly.
4. Simmer for 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
5. Taste and adjust sweetness or acidity as needed.
6. Remove from heat and let cool before transferring to a jar or container.
7. Store in the fridge for up to a week.
Notes
This sauce thickens as it cools, so don’t over-reduce.
Skip the cornstarch if using as a marinade.
Add chili flakes or sesame oil for an extra flavor kick.
