Description

This Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes recipe is the perfect comfort food mashup of ground beef, provolone cheese, and sautéd peppers and onions on a toasted bun. Quick, cheesy, and family-friendly—this easy ground beef dinner is ready in 20 minutes and packed with Philly flavor.

Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1 green bell pepper, diced

1 yellow onion, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup beef broth

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

2 tablespoons ketchup

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

6 slices provolone cheese (or 1 cup shredded)

6 hamburger buns

Instructions

1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it up as it cooks.

2. Add the diced onion, green bell pepper, and minced garlic. Sauté for about 5 minutes until soft and fragrant.

3. Stir in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and ketchup. Mix well to combine.

4. In a small bowl, whisk cornstarch with a splash of water to make a slurry, then stir into the skillet. Simmer for 3–5 minutes until thickened.

5. Turn off the heat and stir in the provolone cheese. Mix until melted and creamy.

6. Toast the hamburger buns if desired, then spoon the beef mixture onto the buns. Serve hot.

Notes

Use lean ground beef to avoid greasy filling.

Don’t add cheese too early—wait until the heat is off to prevent curdling.

Toast the buns for better texture and to hold the filling better.
