Description
These flaky, buttery homemade biscuits are the perfect comfort food for breakfast or dinner. Made with buttermilk and cold butter, they bake up golden and tender every time. Great for pairing with sausage gravy, honey, or jam, this easy biscuit recipe is a must-have for every kitchen.
Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
3/4 cup buttermilk, cold
Instructions
1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
2. Add cold, cubed butter and cut it into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
3. Pour in cold buttermilk and stir just until a shaggy dough forms.
4. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently pat it into a rectangle.
5. Fold the dough over itself a few times to create layers, then flatten to 1-inch thick.
6. Use a biscuit cutter or floured glass to cut out circles.
7. Place biscuits close together on a baking sheet and bake at 425°F (220°C) for 12–15 minutes, until golden brown.
Notes
Use very cold butter for the flakiest texture.
Don’t overmix the dough; keep it just combined.
Bake biscuits close together so they rise up instead of out.
