Ingredients
8 oz cream cheese, softened
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
2 green onions, chopped
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
2 large eggs, beaten
1 cup breadcrumbs or panko
Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
Instructions
1. In a mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese, shredded cheddar, chopped green onions, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until smooth.
2. Scoop the mixture and roll into small bite-sized balls. Chill them for 20 minutes to firm up.
3. Set up a breading station with three bowls: one for flour, one for beaten eggs, and one for breadcrumbs.
4. Roll each cheese ball in flour, then dip into the eggs, and finally coat with breadcrumbs.
5. For frying: heat oil to 350°F and fry the poppers in small batches until golden and crispy, about 2-3 minutes.
6. For baking: place on a parchment-lined tray and bake at 400°F for 15-18 minutes, flipping halfway through.
7. Let them cool slightly and serve warm with dipping sauces.
Notes
Chill the cheese balls before breading to help them hold their shape better.
Use seasoned panko for extra crunch and flavor.
You can freeze them after breading and cook later from frozen.
