Description
Classic Buttery Spritz Cookies are crisp, buttery holiday cookies that melt in your mouth. These easy-to-make cookies use simple ingredients and a cookie press for festive shapes, perfect for Christmas baking, cookie swaps, and edible gifts.
Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
0.75 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
0.5 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
2.25 cups all-purpose flour
0.25 teaspoon salt
Instructions
1. Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
2. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract if using. Mix until fully combined.
3. Gradually mix in the flour and salt until a soft dough forms.
4. Fill a cookie press with the dough and press onto an ungreased, cool baking sheet.
5. Decorate with sprinkles or colored sugar if desired.
6. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 7–9 minutes, just until edges begin to turn golden.
7. Let cool on the sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
8. Store in an airtight container at room temperature or freeze in layers.
Notes
Make sure your butter is fully softened to ensure smooth pressing.
Use an ungreased, unlined cookie sheet for the dough to grip properly.
If dough is too stiff to press, let it sit at room temperature a few more minutes.
