Description
A Classic American Apple Pie with a golden buttery crust and warmly spiced apple filling, made with fresh apples, cinnamon, and a touch of lemon. Perfect for holidays or anytime dessert, this homemade pie is sweet, flaky, and comfort-filled.
Ingredients
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 cup unsalted butter (cold, cubed)
6 tablespoons ice water
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup granulated sugar
¼ cup brown sugar
1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
⅛ teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon lemon juice
6 cups apples (peeled and sliced, use a mix of Granny Smith and Honeycrisp)
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 egg (for egg wash)
Instructions
1. Mix flour and salt in a large bowl. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
2. Add ice water one tablespoon at a time until dough forms. Divide into 2 discs, wrap, and chill for at least 1 hour.
3. Peel and slice apples. Toss with granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch. Set aside.
4. Roll out one dough disc and line a 9-inch pie dish. Fill with apple mixture and dot with a few cubes of butter.
5. Roll out second disc, place over filling or create a lattice. Trim and crimp edges, then cut vents.
6. Brush top crust with beaten egg.
7. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 45–50 minutes until golden and bubbly. Cover edges if browning too quickly.
8. Cool for at least 2 hours before slicing to allow filling to set.
Notes
Use a blend of tart and sweet apples for the best flavor.
Don’t skip chilling the dough—cold butter creates flaky layers.
Let the pie cool fully before slicing to prevent a runny filling.
