Description

This chopped cheeseburger recipe is a skillet-style twist on the classic cheeseburger, featuring juicy ground beef, melty cheese, caramelized onions, and toasted buns. Perfect for quick dinners, comfort food cravings, or game day eats. Keywords: chopped cheeseburgers, skillet burgers, easy cheeseburger recipe, comfort food, ground beef recipes.

Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

1/2 tsp garlic powder

6 slices American cheese

4 burger buns

2 tbsp butter

Optional toppings: pickles, shredded lettuce, ketchup, mustard, hot sauce

Instructions

1. Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté until golden and caramelized, about 5-6 minutes.

2. Add the ground beef directly into the skillet with the onions. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Use a spatula to chop and crumble the beef as it browns. Let it develop some crispy edges for added flavor.

3. Once the beef is fully cooked, reduce the heat and lay the American cheese slices evenly over the top. Cover the skillet to let the cheese melt completely.

4. In a separate pan, melt the remaining butter and toast the burger buns until golden and crisp.

5. Spoon the cheesy beef mixture onto the bottom half of each toasted bun. Add your favorite toppings like pickles, shredded lettuce, or ketchup. Top with the other bun and serve hot.

Notes

This recipe can be doubled for larger gatherings.

Swap American cheese for cheddar or pepper jack for a flavor twist.

To make ahead, prepare the beef mixture and reheat before serving on fresh buns.
