Ingredients
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 boneless skinless chicken breasts
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups whole milk
1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
1. Pat the chicken breasts dry and season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder on both sides.
2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and sear the chicken until golden and cooked through, about 6–8 minutes per side. Remove and let rest.
3. In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium and melt the butter. Add the flour and whisk to form a roux, cooking for 1–2 minutes.
4. Slowly whisk in the milk, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens, about 3–5 minutes.
5. Reduce heat to low and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
6. Return the cooked chicken to the pan and spoon the cheese sauce over the top. Let it warm through for 2 minutes.
7. Serve hot over pasta, rice, or veggies, and enjoy.
Notes
Always use freshly shredded cheese for the smoothest sauce.
Add a splash of milk when reheating to keep the sauce creamy.
For added flavor, mix in a tablespoon of grated Parmesan with the cheddar.
