Ingredients
1 sheet puff pastry
1/2 pound ground sausage
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 egg, beaten
1 tablespoon mustard or seasoning blend (optional)
Instructions
1. Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and let it rest for a few minutes to soften.
2. In a skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat until fully browned, then drain and let it cool.
3. Spread mustard or seasoning over the pastry if using, then evenly layer the sausage and shredded cheese on top.
4. Roll the puff pastry tightly into a log, wrap it in plastic, and chill for 15 minutes.
5. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) while the roll chills.
6. Slice the log into 1/2-inch thick rounds and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
7. Brush the tops with beaten egg.
8. Bake for 18–20 minutes or until golden and puffed.
9. Let cool slightly before serving warm.
Notes
These pinwheels are best enjoyed warm and fresh from the oven.
You can freeze the unbaked roll and slice and bake as needed.
Spicy sausage or herbed cheese are fun variations to try.
