Ingredients
1 French bread loaf
1 lb ribeye steak, thinly sliced
1 green bell pepper, sliced
1 yellow onion, sliced
2 cups provolone cheese, shredded or sliced
3 cloves garlic, minced
4 tbsp unsalted butter
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
Instructions
1. Melt butter in a saucepan and stir in minced garlic. Cook until fragrant and set aside.
2. In a skillet, heat olive oil and sauté onions and peppers until softened and slightly caramelized. Remove and set aside.
3. Add ribeye to the skillet, season with salt and pepper, and cook until browned. Mix in sautéed peppers and onions.
4. Preheat oven to 375°F. Slice the loaf lengthwise and hollow out some of the bread inside. Brush with garlic butter.
5. Toast bread in the oven for 5 minutes to crisp it slightly.
6. Layer half the cheese inside the bread, then add the steak mixture, then top with remaining cheese.
7. Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbling.
8. Let cool slightly, slice thick, and serve warm.
Notes
Use a sturdy crusty loaf so the filling holds well.
Shred your cheese for better meltability if using block cheese.
