Description

A cozy fusion of two classics, this Apple Pie Baklava with Maple Syrup features flaky phyllo layers, spiced apples, crunchy walnuts, and a warm maple glaze. Perfect fall dessert or holiday treat combining apple pie and baklava into one irresistible recipe.

Ingredients

12 sheets phyllo dough

1 cup unsalted butter, melted

3 cups apples, peeled and finely chopped

1/2 cup brown sugar

1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup walnuts, chopped

1/2 cup maple syrup

Instructions

1. Peel and chop apples, then sauté with butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and lemon juice until soft and caramelized. Let cool.

2. Chop walnuts and mix with a pinch of cinnamon.

3. Preheat oven to 350°F. Brush a baking dish with melted butter. Layer 8 sheets of phyllo dough, brushing each sheet with butter.

4. Add half of the apple mixture and half the walnut mix. Add 4 more sheets of buttered phyllo, then the remaining apple and walnut. Top with final 4 layers of phyllo.

5. Cut into diamond or square shapes using a sharp knife.

6. Bake for 40–45 minutes until golden and crispy.

7. While baking, warm the maple syrup with vanilla.

8. Pour the hot syrup over the fresh-baked baklava and let it soak as it cools.

Notes

Let the baklava cool fully before cutting for clean edges.

Keep the phyllo sheets covered with a damp towel to prevent drying.

This dessert tastes even better the next day once the syrup is fully absorbed.
