Ingredients
6 cups sliced apples
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter (cold and cubed)
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and butter a 9×9 inch baking dish.
2. In a large bowl, combine sliced apples with lemon juice, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract. Mix well and transfer to the baking dish.
3. In another bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture forms coarse crumbs.
4. Sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the apples.
5. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes or until the topping is golden and the apple filling is bubbling.
6. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
Best served warm with vanilla ice cream.
You can use a mix of sweet and tart apples for a more complex flavor.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
